Grandpa Meyer

I had to post my favorite picture of my grandparents - this is their wedding picture. Married at age 18 and for 65 years - that is just crazy. My grandpa's obituary is below.

Richard John Meyer, 83, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Ark. He was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Inman, Kan., to Herbert J. Meyer and Ethel Brady Meyer.

He married Lorene Wiederstein after graduating from Inman High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and later served during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor's degree from Wichita State University in Kansas. He had a 32-year career in the trucking industry, which included owning a Freightliner dealership in Salina, Kan. He retired to Bella Vista in 1982.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lorene Meyer; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and David Mitchell of Overland Park, Kan., Barbara and Darrell Stuedemann of Omaha, Neb., and Laurie and Steven Hoffman of Parkville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, at the Bella Vista Community Church. A private burial will be in Kansas City.

Arrangements are made by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 5248, Bella Vista, AR 72714, or to the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 East Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72714.
